Allow Window Film to Cure

If you have just recently had film installed on your windows, you need to wait to clean it for 30 to 60 days (depending on the thickness of the film). This allows time for the film to adhere to the glass. During this curing time the fluid between the window and the film dries out.

Clean and Maintain Properly 

After the curing process, you are good to go. Proper cleaning will ensure the longevity and performance of your investment. 

What Not to Use When Caring for Window Film

First avoid using the following:

• Ammonia-based cleaners
• Abrasive cleaners
• Scrub brushes
• Paper towels

Always clean the window film when the window glass is not hot. Heat makes window film more susceptible to damage. 

What You Should Use to Clean Window Film

It takes a little time and the right cleaners to properly clean and maintain your window film. Apply an ammonia-free glass cleaning product either by spraying it on or applying with a soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber cloths are good), sponge, or squeegee. (Alternatively, you can use a solution of water and a mild dish detergent.) Wipe the film gently and never scrub or apply too much pressure. 

When cleaning close to the edges of the film, always wipe in the same direction as the edge. For example, at the top and bottom of the window film, you would wipe sideways. On the left and right edges of the film, you would wipe up and down. Finally, dry the window with a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth. 

Tip: Don’t soak the window film with cleaner. If using a dish detergent solution, avoid using too much soap since it can leave streaks that are noticeable in the sun.
